Hannibal, Mo. The Childrens Parade is making a comeback as part of the 50th annual Hannibal Folklife Festival, and the Hannibal Arts Council is inviting K-5 students to help bring the fun, color and creativity to historic Main Street.

To get young parade participants ready for the day, the Hannibal Arts Council is getting ready to host a special Folklife Childrens Parade Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main St.

During the hands-on workshop, kids will create colorful projects they can carry, wave and even play as they march in the parade. Projects is anticipated to include making festive flags, folded paper hats/fans and bamboo fishing poles. The workshop will give young artists a chance to use their imaginations, make something uniquely their own and prepare to become part of a special moment at the Hannibal Folklife Festival.

Bringing back the Childrens Parade is a way to connect a new generation with the traditions of the Hannibal Folklife Festival while giving kids an opportunity to be more than spectators, they get to be part of the celebration!

Participation in the workshop is free, but registration is requested. To register, visit hannibalartscouncil.eventbrite.com, call 573-221-6545 or stop by the Hannibal Arts Council at 105 S. Main St.

The Childrens Parade will kick off the 50th annual Hannibal Folklife Festival at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.
